Lines of symmetry in a regular Square

A shape may have more than one line of symmetry depending on its angles and the lengths of each side.

For example, a rectangle has two lines of symmetry because it can be folded in half both horizontally and vertically to create mirror images.

A regular square is a polygon with four equal sides and four equal angles.

The number of line of symmetry in a regular polygon is equal to the number of sides. Therefore, a square has 4 line of symmetry.

Below figure shows lines of symmetry in a regular square.

There are 4 lines of symmetry in a regular square with equal sides and angles. This is due to the fact that an square may be folded in half four different ways such that one side perfectly fits the other.

Note: If a given line splits a given figure into two identical halves, we say that the line has a line of symmetry or that the figure is symmetrical about the line and line is called a line of symmetry or the axis of symmetry.
