Lines of Symmetry in a Regular Equilateral Triangle

What is line of symmetry ?

The line of symmetry is the imaginary line where we could fold the image and have both halves match exactly.

A shape may have more than one line of symmetry depending on its angles and the lengths of each side.

For example, a rectangle has two lines of symmetry because it can be folded in half both horizontally and vertically to create mirror images.

A regular equilateral triangle is a polygon with three equal sides and three equal angles.

A regular regular equilateral triangle has 3 line of symmetry. The number of line of symmetry in a regular polygon is equal to the number of sides. Therefore, a regular equilateral triangle has 3 line of symmetry.

Below figure shows lines of symmetry in a regular equilateral triangle .

There are three lines of symmetry in a regular equilateral triangle with equal sides and angles. This is due to the fact that a regular equilateral triangle may be folded in half three different ways such that one side perfectly fits the other.

Note: If a given line splits a given figure into two identical halves, we say that the line has a line of symmetry or that the figure is symmetrical about the line and line is called a line of symmetry or the axis of symmetry.
