Ratios word problems

                 we see some word problems.

 1.  Find the ratio of 90cm and 1.2m.

There are two quantities 90cm and 1.2m, but units of both quantities are different.

First we convert them into same units.
                         1m = 100cm
                         1.2m =  1.2 x 100cm = 120cm.

Therefore the required ratio is 90 :120

                        = 90/120

= 90÷30/120÷30

= 3/4
                         Required ratio is 3:4

 2. There are 35 persons working in a office. If the numbers of females is 15 and the remaining are the males, find the ratio of

  1.    The number of females to the number of males.
   2.    The number of males to the number of
                     females.

              Total number of workers  = 35
                     Number of females   = 15
                     Number of males      = 35 – 15
                                                    = 20

             Therefore, the ratio of number of females
              to the number of males = 15:20
                          15:20 = 15/20 = 3/4
             Ratio of number of males to the number
                              of females = 20:15
                           20:15 = 20/15 = 4/3

           The ratio of females to males = 3:4
           The ratio of males to females = 4:3
