Multiplicative inverse

When we divide 1 by the number, we get “Reciprocal” of the number.

The reciprocal = 1/number

Example- The reciprocal of 5 is 1/5

When we multiply a number by its “Multiplicative Inverse” we get 1.

Simply the product of a numbers and its reciprocal is 1, then each number is known as Reciprocal or Multiplicative inverse of another.

Example: 5 x 1/5 =1,

               3/4 x 4/3 = 1

The product of a negative numbers and its reciprocal is 1.

  Example-   -5 x -1/5 =1,

              -3/4 x -4/3 = 1

The number zero (0) is not reciprocal.

A rational number a/b is called the Reciprocal or Multiplicative inverse of another rational number m/n,

                if a/b x m/n = 1.
