How to calculate the volume of a cube with examples

A cube is a solid box of six square faces, all of which sides have equal in length and every square is same in area.

A cube has,

(1) Six surfaces

(2) Eight vertices

(3) Twelve edges or sides of equal length

Volume of a cube = edge x edge x edge

When each edge of a cube is a, then

Volume of a cube = a3

The volume of a cube is represented by cubic centimetre, cubic meter, cubic millimetre.

Example : (1) Find the volume of a cube if the length of one side is 3 cm.

       Volume of a cube = a3

                                 = 3 x 3 x 3

Volume of a cube = 27 cubic centimetre.

Example : (2) Find the volume of a cube if the length of one side is 5 cm.

       Volume of a cube = a3

                                 = 5 x 5 x 5

Volume of a cube = 125 cubic centimetre.

Example : (3) Find the volume of a cube if the length of one side is 3/2 meter.

                        Volume of a cube = a3

                                 = 3/2 x 3/2 x 3/2

Volume of a cube = 27/8 cubic metre.
