Percentage:  Solved Problems

When we solve different type of percentage problems then we solved examples on percentage, they will help us to understand problems easily.

Now we will learn, the concept of percentage and  solve various real life examples on percentage.

Example 1: In a village 35% are females, 50% males and remaining are children, find the percent of children?

Solution: Given percentage are females = 35%

                         percentage are males = 50%

Total percentage of females and males = 35 + 50

Total percentage of females and males = 85

percentage of children =

total percentage – percentage of females and males

                               = 100 – 85

               percentage of children = 15%

                 Hence 15% are children.

Example 2: In an election David got 45% of the total valid votes. If 20% of the total votes were invalid and the total number of votes is 9000.

Find the number of votes polled in favour of David?

Solution: Given that, Total number of invalid votes  = 20% of 9000

                                           = (20/100) x 9000

= 20 x 90

Total number of invalid votes = 1800

Total number of valid votes = 9000 – 1800

Total number of valid votes = 7200

Percentage of valid votes polled in favour of David = 45%

Therefore, number of valid votes polled in favour of David = 45% of 7200

        = (45/100)x7200

        = 45 x 72

        = 3240

Therefore, number of valid votes polled in favour of David = 3240

Example 3: John’s monthly income is $1500, he spent $500 per month on clothes. find the percent of monthly income saved by john.

Solution:   John’s monthly income = $1500

              john’s saving per month = $1500 – $500

              john’s saving per month = $1000

percent of saving income = (1000/1500) x 100

                                     = 1000/15

percent of saving income = 66.6%
