Decimal to Fraction – Convert

All decimal numbers can be converted into fractions. 
Converting decimal to fraction depending on the number of decimal place that may be tenths, hundredths, thousandths etc.

In converting decimals to fractions, we know that a decimal can always be converted into a fraction by using the some steps. 

There are examples will help us to understand how to convert decimal into fraction. 

Example- Convert 0.4 into fraction.        

                        0.4 
          ↑
                        tenths(1/10)

                so put the 7 over 10

                        0.4 = 4/10

Example- Convert 0.34 into fraction.           

                        0.34 
            ↑
                        last digit                        

                it is hundredths(1/100)

                so put the 34 over 100

                        0.34 = 34/100

We see the last digit that is , which is on hundredths place, so the denominator will be 100. 
In the numerator, we write the given number without the decimal point.

Example- Convert 8.365 into fraction.         

                         8.365 
              ↑
                           last digit                        

                     it is thousandths(1/1000)

                    so put the 8365 over 1000

                            8365/1000 

We see the last digit that is 5, which is on thousandths place, so the denominator will be 1000. 
In the numerator, we write the given number without the decimal point.

Example- Convert 0.0025 into fraction in the simplest form.         

                           0.0025 
                  ↑
                           last digit 

              it is ten thousandths(1/10000)

                    so put the 25 over 10000

                             25/10000

both numerator and denominator divided by 25, we get

                               1/400

Therefore, simplest form or lowest form is 1/400.

Example- Convert 0.04 into fraction in the simplest form.  

                              0.04 
                  ↑
                           last digit 

                   it is hundredths(1/100)

                    so put the 4 over 100

                             4/100

both numerator and denominator divided by 4, we get

                               1/25

Therefore, simplest form or lowest form is 1/25.

Example- Convert 3.038 into fraction.         

                         3.038 
              ↑
                           last digit                        

                     it is thousandths(1/1000)

                    so put the 3038 over 1000

                            3038/1000
