Properties of Subtraction
Subtraction – Properties
Properties of Subtractions
1. Subtracting 0 from any number, gives the number itself, means difference is nothing.
2. When we subtract any number from itself the result is zero, means difference is zero.
3. When we subtract 1 from any number, we get just before it, and the difference always equals the predecessor of the number.
4. In subtraction, the order in which the numbers are subtracted is important.
Example: 12 – 8 = 4 and 8 – 12 = – 4
12 – 8 ≠ 8 – 12
The subtraction of numbers is non-associative.
