Definition
The first digit to the right of the decimal point represents the tenths place.
The number after the decimal is called the decimal part and the number before the decimal point is called the whole or integral part.
First we take a plane sheet which represents one whole.
Now, we divide the sheet into ten equal parts.
Represent 0.1 or 1/10
Each part represents one tenths of the whole.
It is written in the decimal form as 0.1, and read as zero point one, in the fractional form 1/10.
Represent 0.3 or 3/10
The whole number part is zero. A decimal point shows that value of all the numerals placed after decimal is less than whole.
