Draw a Circle of a Given Radius – Using Compass
How to draw a Circle of a Given Radius – Using Compass
Circle
A circle is a collection of all the points in a plane, whose all points are same distance from a fix point. The fix point is called center of the circle.
We use instruments for drawing a circle, on a paper whose radius is given is known as the compass and ruler.
Before we learn how to draw a circle, we see some properties of a circle.
Diameter
The longest distance that has the end points on the circle and passes through the center is known as diameter.
Radius
The distance from center of a circle to any point on the circle, is known as radius. It is half of the diameter.
Given that the radius of the circle is 5 cm, then the steps for draw the circle are as follows.
Step 1: Mark a point O on a sheet of paper, This point is supposed to be the center (O) of the circle, where we construct the circle. Hence a circle can be drawn if its center and radius are known.
Point O
Step 2: Radius is 5 cm, we measure 5 cm using scale and compass.
Step 3: Place the pointer of the compass at the point O.
Without disturbing turn the compass slowly, holding
the compass from its knob, draw a complete arc, after completing one complete round we get the desired circle O.
