Addition of Decimal numbers

1. John bought 5kg 70g of grapes, 3kg 50g apple and 4kg 200g of mangoes. Find the total weight of all the fruits he bought?

Solution:                1000g = 1kg

                              70g = 1/1000 x 70/1

                                       = 70/1000

                             70g = 0.070kg

 so the Weight of grapes = 5kg, 70g = 5.070 kg

             Weight of apple = 3kg, 50g = 3.050 kg

       Weight of mangoes = 4kg, 200g = 4.200 kg

 Therefore total weight of all the fruits he bought is

Total weight of the fruits bought = 12.320kg.

2.   Rahul’s mother gave her $11.50 and her father gave her $25.40. Find the total amount given to Rahul by the parents?

Solution:     mother gave her = $11.50

                    father gave her = $25.40  

       Total amount given to Rahul by the parents is

                                 $11.50 
                               +$25.40 
                                 $36.90 

 Total amount given to Rahul by the parents is $36.90. 

3.  john spent $9.30 for buying a pen and $4.50 for one pencil. How much money did he spend? 

Solution:     Money spent for pen = $9.30

               Money spent for pencil = $4.50

                  Total money spent  = $9.30 + $4.50

 Total amount spent by the john is $13.80.
