Protractor – How to measure angle with Protractor – Geometry
Measure an angle with Protractor
Shape of a protractor
The shape of a protractor is as a semi circle. Protractor’s upper side is curved and lower side is a straight line.
The curved edge is divided into 180 equal parts, and each part is equal to a degree.
Most protractors have two sets of numbers, going in opposite directions.
1. Outer scale or Upper set
2. Inner scale or bottom set.
In inner scale markings start from 0 degree on the right hand side and end with 180 degree on bottom set. (Anti clock wise)
The markings start from 0 degree on the left hand side and end with 180 degree on upper set. (Clock wise)
Now we will learn, how to draw angles, with the help of a protractor. How to measure different angles using protractor.
First we focus on a angle, what is an angle?
A figure formed by two lines when they meet at a vertex or corner is an angle.
An angle is measure in degree, which is unit of angle.
Here is ∠YXZ is 500. and vertex of angle is X.
An angle is measure in degree which is unit of angle.
The symbol of degree is denoted by a little circle 0.
500 means 50 degrees and read as 50 degree.
Measure angle with Protractor
Step 1: Place the midpoint of the protractor on the vertex of the angle X.
Step 2: Adjust the one side of the angle with base line of the protractor.
Step 3: Read the value of the angle ∠YXZ, from the inner scale.
