 Properties of Even Numbers

Addition: (1) The addition of two even numbers always gives an even number, i.e., the sum of two even numbers is always an even number.

Example: 8 (even) + 6 (even) = 14 (even)

(2) The sum of an even number and an odd number is an odd number.

Example: 8 (even) + 7 (odd) = 15 (odd)

(3) The sum of two odd numbers is an even number.

Example: 9 (odd) + 7 (odd) = 16 (even)

Subtraction: The difference between two even numbers always gives an even number, i.e., When an even number is subtracted from other even number, the result is always an even number.

Example: 12 (even) – 4 (even) = 8 (even)

The difference between two odd numbers is an even number.

Example: 17 (odd) – 9 (odd) = 8 (even)

Multiplication: (1) Multiplication of two even numbers always gives an even number.

Example: 10 (even) x 6 (even) = 60 (even)

(2) Multiplication of an even number and an odd number always gives an even number.

Example: 6 (even) x 5 (odd) = 30 (even)

Division: Even number is divisible by two, and leaves remainder zero.

Example: 38 (even) ÷ 2 (even) = 19 and remainder will be zero.
